Last week I got the best news of my career -- I booked a NIKE Golf commercial. It was an amazing experience as my first SAG-AFTRA union project, to work with true professionals who were respectful, friendly and efficient. I had grilled salmon for lunch.
The commercial came about in a strange way. I auditioned one week, was called back the next. Immediately after the callback I was put on avail, where I remained for a week. This is where it gets weird... I was released from avail and then put back on avail two days later (something my agent said she had never seen happen before). A couple days passed. Then, late on a Tuesday afternoon, I got a call from Joan, my agent at Pinnacle, telling me she had "good news." BOOKED. Call Grandma.
That same afternoon I went to celebrate with a cocktail, the only way I know how. I got a call from an unknown number, presumably the production company behind the NIKE commercial, but it just so happened to be another casting company requesting a callback for a beer commercial shooting in Vancouver. "Sorry," I told her, "but I just booked a national commercial that shoots tomorrow and won't be able to make the session." Too much good news.
Since the commercial Joan has been sending me out a ton. I rewarded her with an apple cinnamon bread pudding and vanilla bean ice cream. That'll do, Joan. That'll do. *closes gate*
